What to Do When You Are Unemployed:

4/26/08

Hit something with a hammer 2,147 times.

The "something" here being our kitchen. I start my new job on Monday, so this was a good way to get all my frustrations out before then.

I was not joking in my previous post about not being able to sleep. My eyes popped open at 6:33am and I was ready to demo. (Sorry neighbors!) The cabinets were the first to go:

We are keeping the sink for now so that we don't have to do dishes upstairs in the tub. While I was trying to cut my foot off with the sawz-all, Marc was taking the old oven chimney down. The flue was PACKED with soot, old newspaper, glass, metal and pretty much anything else they could find and shove in there:

Next was removing all the old plaster and lath. This is a messy job and was compounded by even messier findings, like this mouse? ant? cockroach? nest:

On our way to our typical construction lunch (Sonic - chili cheeseburger for me, jalapeno burger for Marc), we decided to make a special delivery:

Sorry Stephen, you were warned. You never should have went on and on about how much you loved that stupid wallpaper. It's all yours now.

And here is today's work; most of the interior crap down:

Tomorrow we take down the ceiling. More plaster fun.

I'll leave you with this exciting post-construction photo:
Dirt Leggings.

They are all the rage in Asheville.
