So we are going to order our cabinets this week (or by the 11th) because the 'Kea is having a sale. So we had to decide on our final appliances and such. We also recently decided to shorten the counter by 4" or so and make it all one level. Like this:
'

Here's the low-down on the appliance and such:
Shiny white like this ^
But more streamlined like this^
The countertops will be soapstone.
So everything Above the counter level will be stainless:
Siemens 30" Gas cooktop
Stainless Steel hood
How awesome are the Hood's controls?
Stainless Sink
Stainless Faucet
& everything below the counter level will be white glass (or high-gloss white):
30" wall oven installed under the cooktop
counter-depth fridge
dishwasher
I'm so excited about ordering this stuff finally. Not so excited about paying for it but....

Wow, it's going to look awesome!! I love watching your progression. :)
ReplyDeleteLooks good. I have a suggestion.
ReplyDeleteIt looks from your photos that eating is done in another room.
Why don't you put the dishwasher on the right side of the sink? This puts it close to the table.
Move the tall cab on the end next to the stove to give you a place for storing baking pans, cookie sheets, etc.
Move the cab that is next to the stove now on the right side of the tall cab for other cooking pots, and use the drawers for the knives and other stuff used around the stove. Just an idea.
The Ikea sale is INCREDIBLE.
ReplyDeleteJust last week, we bought base cabinets and added on a fridge and a range. Basically, we got an upgrade on the latter two and still came in under budget!
I would make one suggestion. Try Ebay for range hood and sink and perhaps faucet.
We did.
This store.
Verrry nice, friendly price.

I'll try to get some pics up as we're way behind posting on the blog and the house is moving fast. I think it's wild that we're on the same time schedule and have similar taste.

Alan - thanks for the ideas. The thing is that that layout would push the sink into the opening which I'm not fond of. Plus when the dishwasher was open, you couldn't get into the fridge. Kitchens are so tricky!
ReplyDeleteMark - thanks for the ebay tip. I never even thought of it! Also, please don't beat us and get your kitchen done super quick. I'll cry!!
How about if we screw something up?
ReplyDeleteWe already did, actually. We had a plan that worked great.
Then we moved the wet wall 6" to get over past a double joist in the basement. That made all the cabinetry not work the way we planned. But the hole for the range hood got poked through the brick based upon the old plan.
We discovered that while hanging some of the early cabinets. So, I'm chipping out spray foam, rebuilding brick, re-insulating, and patching brand new dry wall.
I still need to poke a new hole 15" north.
Does that make you feel better?
LOL!
We may beat you time wise, but it won't be pretty...
I LOVE the prices we got on our 16 gauge sink on Ebay. Compare at the store and you'll see what I mean.
BTW, I love the counters you're putting in. Sexy. We had to be more expedient, alas (not that I don't like our counter tops).

i can't wait to see how this all comes together! i love the countertops too, that's what i've been thinking i'd like to have for my (way off) future kitchen remodel. and those appliances! i'm so picky about just how they look and those are perfect! sigh.... someday....
ReplyDeleteLove the appliances! What brand are they?
ReplyDeleteThe DW, fridge & oven are all Jenn-Air. :)
