The NEW List

11/11/08

Ah, yes a new list has been created.

We are determined to get the kitchen done for our new year's party, so we had to get organized! And I don't care how bad Marc teases me about it, it helps!

I took this photo a couple of days ago, so we already have done several things. Including (drum roll please) ordering cabinets!! We are getting them delivered because if you factor gas plus Georgia sales tax, it equals the delivery fee. Plus we got the 10% off sale. They should be here by the 29th latest. Now we just have to get cracking on the prep stuff!

We spent a good part of last weekend covering up all our walls. these are the walls between the kitchen and dining room "Before".

Here's the After! We are making two hidden cabinets in this wall. One on the upper left and one on the lower left. They will be for wine glasses, trays, etc. This wall is plywood, not sheetrock because it is getting covered with the reclaimed wood beadboard.

And the entry to the dining room from the hallway "Before" & "After"!

I also finished insulating what will be the future bathroom. We decided to not reinstall the crappy old kitchen door (to the backporch) so I make a nicer, insulated double plywood "door". Klassy.

So here are two funny photos. This first one is what Marc found when he started sanding a high spot in the dining room plaster. We now know all the colors our dining room has ever been painted! Check it out->

What is interesting to me is that the first two colors are really close to the brown and orange that we painted the parlor. Ah, see historical precedence!

Even though it is not the most appetizing color, I think I'm going back with a soft blue-gray on the walls. Originally, I wanted gray walls and a blue ceiling, but because of the way the ceiling detail at the opening to the kitchen turned out, that would be too awkward. So white ceiling for me. :(

<--This is a trick my friend taught me. Instead of washing your brushes, rollers & pans after each coat, just bag them up and put them in the fridge right next to you apples and yogurt. They won't dry out and will be chilled and ready for the next coat!

  1. We always put our rollers in the fridge too! GREAT tip!

  2. I am also down with the refrigerated roller concept. And I totally dig your registration exam checklist reward system. Not that I'll need that when I start taking them in Jan as its supposed to be all combined into one. Lucky devils.
