Important

(cartoon bySteve Greenberg of www.Greenberg-art.com)

Marc and I are actually going to do some renovation work this weekend, but I saw this and thought it was important. Bottled water is over twice the cost of gas? Ridiculous.

If you aren't on a city water system (like my parents) consider buying water from the grocery in reusable plastic bottles. This is really common.

For water "on-the-go"Here are some really great alternatives from thegreenguide.com

Kleen Kanteen stainless steel water bottle w/ cap, 27 fluid ounces ($17.95; www.kleankanteen.com)

MLS Stainless Steel Thermos Bottle, 1 liter ($22.16; www.mls-group.com)

Nissan Thermos FBB500 Briefcase Bottle, 1pt ($35; www.coffee-makers-espresso-machines.com)

Sigg resin coated aluminum sport bottle, 25 ounces ($19.99; www.mysigg.com)

Platypus #5 polypropylene 2+collapsible water bottle, 2.4 liters ($9.95; www.rei.com)

Nalgene HDPE Loop-Top Bottle, 16 ounces ($4.53; www.nalgene-outdoor.com)

Poll: My bathroom ceiling

2/21/08

Vote to the right ---->

So I wanted to do a fake tin ceiling in the upstairs bathroom for many reasons. #1 The ceiling is cracked and fixing it will be a huge PITA. #2 I like the look a lot if I get a more art deco tile (see below). #3 I have birthday money that is burning a hole in my pocket. (Well, for full disclosure, I have probably spent the birthday money 3 times over already.)

What do you think? I like these:

I think we can get them in Stainless steel for a very reasonable price.

Here is a link a bathroom post.

What I Did When I Should Have Been Studying: Part V

Made Curtains!

I've had this ikea fabric for about 9 months and I finally got around to making bedroom curtains. So the twice daily "show" for the neighbors is over. Sorry!

Window #1 (that cool lamp was a wedding gift from my friend Adam, cool right?)

Window #2 (I don't know what that white orb is in the right of the photo. Aren't those supposed to be ghosts? Scary. It is prolly dust.)

And here is Tuna - defender of the crack house at rest enjoying the new curtains from her post.

And here she is out and about, making her security rounds.

My Favorite Puerto Rico Photo!

Mouse Over it!

It literally just took me an hour to figure out how to do this, so I'm way to excited about it.

Thanks to Marc for the cool idea.

Guest Blogging is fun!

2/14/08

My friend is out of town, so she asked me to guest blog for her. Her blog is about everthing in life that is So Wonderful, So Marvelous.

This Week's Goal

2/12/08

Reorganize & sort the Storage Room.

Because I've just had enough.

Marc and I were looking for a book this morning and we went thru every single box of books and still NADA! It is sooo frustrating. Urgh.

Must. Organize. This. Room.

I PASSED! 2 of 9

Man-o! I'm so relieved. I felt like I so did not study enough and had a bad feeling coming out of that one.

I'm calling about my massage today!

Part of my Inheritance...

2/8/08

So if you ever wonder where I got my demented sense of humor, I would like to introduce you to my Mom, Joanie.

She is Funny. Silly. Cheap. That is a deadly combination, because it makes her do strange things. Like recycle greeting cards. She won't spend $ on greeting cards, not even the 99cent ones. So she just uses old ones that she has in her desk drawer. Oh, did I mention she is a packrat too? So she has about a million old cards to choose from.

I love you mom, but you are a little nuts.
Case in point:
My birthday card:

Yes, that is our family holiday card circa 1985 with sharpie writing on it. The thing about these recycled cards is that the modified greeting almost always still works. The greeting card messages are so banal that you can substitute words willy-nilly and the message still sounds nice. I do like the use of 2 different color sharpies, because that took extra effort.

I would like to point out one weird thing that I didn't see at first. Look at the signature: "Mom & Dick."

So... my dad's name is Richard. Dick for his nickname, but he is my real dad, not a stepdad or anything. So am I not allowed to call him Dad anymore? Or is the card from my mom and one of my Dad's 3 friends also named Dick? I'm sort of hurt, but very intrigued at the same time.

What I did when I should have been studying: Part IV

WENT TO PUERTO RICO!!!!

Because I have the most amazing husband and most awesome friends ever.
It was my 30th birthday surprise.
Terrific huh? Here are some pics:

Vieques (a tiny island off the east coast of Puerto Rico)
We had to ride the cargo ferry with a truckload of concrete blocks. SCARY!

On the ferry

Hope ours doesn't have the same fate

Pulling into Vieques.

Can you tell we are excited?

Cutest.
House.
Ever.

One of the 5,000 roosters that kept us up at night.

And one of the cats that kept us company.

Checking out the crazy military pier. It was like 1/4 mile long!

Our own private beach #1

with our jeep.

Marc cracking open a coconut for us.

YUM!

Wild horses (there were tons!)

On the bus to the bio bay. It was AMAZING!!

Our own private beach (and island) #2

We kayaked over and then went snorkeling here.

This is a crazy old tree.

Our own private beach #3

Meet the players!

This was on my bday (also superbowl sunday) so we decided to have our own "super bowl" but with hermit crabs! (Giants won ours too!)

birthday food.

And of course, birthday drinks!

Old San Juan

The day AFTER my birthday, I wasn't feeling so hot.

Marc thinks it is funny.

I strike my pose at the old Murro.

Hanging out with the cruise boats.

More Murro the next day.

Because architects are dorks and take photos of bathrooms while on vacation.

Brent tries to catch an Iguana.

Maggie cools off in the fountain.

And this is what we would do if we lived here.

Our final meal. Booooo!

This is the man we have to thank for it all.
Lordy, do I have a handsome husband or what??

Oh and he is downstairs in our gnarly kitchen making dinner right now! Eat your heart out! hee hee hee.
