Porch Update: It is getting close.

9/4/09

So I promise that I will start posting more now that my life has calmed down a little. Marc and I have actually worked in a couple of good days on the back porch. Screen is all in, soffit is done and sill is flashed. Now we just need a door and the wood floor and it is all done!

Here it is with 1/2 of the white primed skirt board in place. I'm thinking brown for the skirt board and Marc is thinking green..

Here is the metal and sticky flashing in place. (Great job Marc!) You can also see the unpainted wood soffit at the top in place. I need to paint that.

A little detail of the inside with the wood wall and door painted and the door frame ready for stain. At the top, you can see how we tricked out the attic which needed to be vented. Those a green slat boards with and black-painted frame behind with screen on it. Helps keep the attic area above the kitchen cool.

I'm watching the older 2 of my nephews this weekend, and have the perfect job for them. (They never visit without me putting them to work. Last time it was helping Marc edge the other 1/2 of the front walk.) This time, I found the perfect job for them: vacuuming up all the dead bugs that got trapped on the back porch!

So those little guys you see are regular sized bees and bugs and the big guy in the center is possibly North Carolina's biggest bee. It is HUGE!

Of course, the completion of this project necessitates another project: Operation Shed. When the back porch is finished and all nice, we really can't store the lawnmower and gas out there, so we are going to built a small 6x10? 8x10? shed.
