Trying to stay upbeat. Literally.

Well, our stone is gone. Sold at auction last weekend. Our stone guy never picked it up. Now, on to getting our deposit $ back from him. I'll update with a full story when I have more resolution. I think the lesson that we've learned is that when in doubt, just DIY it. We've hired 3 contractors so far, and 2 of the 3 have turned out to be total crooks. (Not the painter, Don Kirkwood, who was awesome!)

I'm going to admit a small confession here. When I saw our neighbor's soapstone in person, I didn't love it. It was greenish and very veiny. Not really the mod look I wanted. So, thank goodness for small blessings (and horrible, dishonest people). Now we are looking at resin countertops, which is actually the material that is used now in classrooms instead of soapstone. Check out Grassrootsmodern.com's awesome resin countertops.

So on to the "literally" part now.

I was tapped to do my office holiday party's music playlist. I'm no music snob, but I think it rocks. I mean, Camera Obscura followed by Jackson 5? Santigold followed by Chuck Berry? Pulp's Common People, Brazilian Girls AND Snoopy vs. The Red Baron?

Anger over countertops turned me into a compositional genius!

Here's a link to the full list.

  1. That is too bad your contractors have been so flaky. We've definitely found it easier to DIY than to find a contractor and that says a lot because some crap is hard !

Hopefully you have better luck with the resin counter tops.

  2. This is probably my first post on your blog, but I've been reading it for awhile.

That really sucks that lost out on that deal on the countertop, but those laboratory resin counters look amazing! I think you lucked out by missing out on the soapstone.

  4. Our kitchen reno is at least a year out but I've started looking into IceStone.

And Santogold on any playlist is a win.
