Double Farts

6/14/10

So of course, something went wrong. I'm waaaay less mad about it than I expected I would be though. It went a little something like this: our contractor neighbor came over and helped us prep, we gathered the troops to help lift the slabs, and Franca decided for only the second time in her life that she WANTED to be held. So I held her while doing what I could to assist in the maneuvering.

We lifted the first slab into place. Perfect. Awesome. In came slab #2 and shit. It was cupped. The seam between the two was way off AND after further inspection, the slabs are different thicknesses. Almost 1/8" different. Shit. Shit. Shit.

So we got some weights and boxes of books to try to "uncup" the slab. Then we sat on the couch pouting for 2 hours. Franca sensed it and was acting hilarious to cheer us up. Laughing, cooing, farting, the whole 9 yards. It is really impossible to be angry when your daughter simultaneously sneezes, farts and laughs. Then she gives you this adorable look:
Good thing is, I'm very confident that the company that we ordered from will quickly cast and ship us a new piece. I'm thinking it will at least take 2 weeks, so we got busy and hooked up the new faucet and the cooktop.... and I'm in love. I didn't cry during my whole pregnancy, but when I lit those burners, I'll admit, I got teared up. Even though it was 90 degrees here this weekend, I boiled a big pot of water and made pasta. Water boiled in 3 minutes. More tears.

A half success anyway. And it is really going to be awesome when it is all said and done. The material is wonderful. Soft and clean. Water beads up on it. It is really very cool and super beautiful. So I'm not mad.

  2. I'm curious about the wine storage slot.
How many bottles can be stored?
Is the only access through the slot?
Are there little tiny shelves for the bottles?
What happens when Franca drops her favorite little toy in there?

Always on the lookout for new ideas so am hoping for details!

    Thanks
