I've started the parlor makeover (finishing) search. Starting with lamps.
These are my requirements:
- Switch on the lamp itself not the cord
- (Love you Ikea, but you always have your lamp switches on the cord and it drives me nuts!)
- Sort of tall. 24"?
- All the furniture in the parlor is pretty low, so I'd like the lamps to add some height.
- Retro/Mod Style
- No pleated shade, no cone shaped shade.
Here are some that I like (on a very quick search):
Love this one from Tango Lighting, too bad it is $564 w/ architect's discount.
Is this one from the MOMA Store played out?
I actually met with a Nessen rep the other day.
Too bad this is $300 w/ architect's discount.
Have a good resource for lamps?
Know of a good architect's discount?
Please let me know!

csnlighting.com has some pretty competitive prices. There's a fair amount of fugliness to wade through, but there are some keepers, too.
ReplyDeleteLast one is my favorite too. Mr. Man is an architect and gets an architect discount from Artemide - but I have NOT ONE CLUE about how pricey they are. Do you ever watch the sale bins at www.allmodern.com (not being paid to say that)? Because I'm always shocked at the awesome that's there, but it's TOTALLY hit or miss because they're all returns
ReplyDeleteI'm thinking you probably know all this being an architect & all - but it is so easy to forget when you get caught up in trying to find the perfect looking lamp -
ReplyDeleteBe careful trying to add height with lamps if your seating is low - you might end up looking at the bulb way too much and end up with permanent squint. You may need to sit on the furniture and try out some different lamps to get an idea of how high (or low) the bottom of the shade needs to be and use that as a guide for the new lamps. It will probably also depend on what it is being used for - task or general lighting.
Good luck!
