Did We Really Think It Would Come to This?

4/29/10

Really, it came to this?

I can't believe we let this happen.
Poor, poor Franca, born into a world with no kitchen.

April 26th marks 2 years y'all. TWO YEARS without a kitchen.

There has been a little progress made on getting our money back from Sammy Mullis, the countertop guy who STOLE our deposit. I've updated that post, check it out here.
But all and all, the kitchen is still in a holding pattern. Marc is getting price quotes for the epoxy countertops that we want. We got a terrific, affordable quote from ChemTops, and I'm super pumped that we might actually have countertops SOON!
A friend asked me what the first thing I'm going to make post-countertops. I didn't even have to think about it, I'm going to boil a pot of water ALL DANG DAY LONG!!!
But until that glorious day, we will just keep on living with our painted plywood countertops, hotplate with a broken knob, no trim work, capped wires sticking out of the wall, vent hood hole in the ceiling, and the $35 "temporary" sink in our kitchen.
Sigh.
Let's reminise shall we?

The old kitchen. Ew.

Me, so hopeful during my first day of demo in 2008 (!)

Dead cats #3 & #4

Diaper insulation!

Installing cabinets. Hey, at least that is done!

The trusty hot plate w/ its broken knob.

The stone that we paid for, but never got.

How the cooktop feels sitting UNUSED on the dining room floor for 6 months!

And something hopeful:

It's an Earth Day Tradition

4/28/10

This year, without even planning, I did it again on Earth Day! Here are the pics:

Yeah, looks better closer up! Put those steps and walkway on the"TO DO" list! (But notice Marc hanging with Franca in her stroller & Tuna!)

And in another "Bunni-zation" I redid this old table that my parents got along with 6 chairs for me at an auction in Ohio awhile back.

The chairs I had already redone, but the table had been sitting neglected on the front porch.
Here are the befores:

And the afters:

Now, to what makes this a "Bunni-zation" Notice the little "trick" that I did in the joint. It was going to be WAY too hard to get the faded yellow paint out of there, so I just painted it black along with the legs and base! And if you look closely at the legs and base, you'll notice that the legs are matte and the base is gloss paint. Yeah..... that was a happy accident. I did the legs first in the matte spray paint, but then it ran out. So I grabbed another can of black spray paint to do the base, not realizing that it was gloss paint. Whoopsa! Marc thought it was intentionaly and really likes it, so it is staying! :)

8 weeks ago today...

We welcomed this little bundle of cuteness!

And here she is now, so grown up already:

Sorry for the dearth in posts, I've been busy "mommying", but really, Franca is a great baby and I can't blame it on her at all. I've actually been using her down time to do little house projects, but mostly to work for my old boss on his website. Need that money!

She has made herself right at home in the crack house. Her favorite things are staring out windows and at lights. So it makes sense that this is the motherload of light fixtures for her <--------

She stares at it when it is not even on. The first time I turned it on for her, had her pants not already been crapped, she would have totally crapped them!

Farewell to a Cool Rug

4/7/10

Remember how psyched I was when we got this rug free from our friends? When they gave it to us, it was because their daughter was pulling at it and eating the fuzz. Well, they thought she was pulling at it, but she got a bad rap because this thing sheds like a mo'fo all on its own.

It is wool and I know that wool rugs shed, but this was extreme. It was driving Marc insane. We are used to the occassional cat hair tumbleweed, but mix it with excessive amounts of wool fibers and it was even getting on my nerves (and I'm a complete slob.)

It finally had to go when a wool fiber got stuck to Franca's eyeball. Cool or not, don't mess with my daughter's cornea!

So now it is rolled up in the parlor like some big fat cigarette and MAN this thing is heavy and big. We will have to drive it to the dump OR.... we can unload it on craigslist. I'm thinking of posting it for free on craigslist with a full disclaimer and seeing if I get any suckers, err, I mean takers. :)
