Backyard Plans

4/19/11

Marc is meeting with someone today about regrading part of our backyard closest to the house. This will help us with all the water from the backyard being directed to our foundation, and make a nice little spot for a patio. Here is the overall plan: (click to see it bigger)

And here is a detail of the patio/firepit area:

More details after Marc meeting with the guy today!

  2. A couple thoughts based on my backyard experiences. Please feel free to ignore!

    1. For your garden, you might want a place for a compost bin. They are bigger than you might think. They need FULL SUN!
    2. I vote against Wisteria as it gets cuh-razy, only blooms for one week a year and is generally a pain in the ass dropping pods and leaves the rest of the year.
    3. The trees by the garden? When you say 'garden' I think food garden, in which case, remember that veggies need full sun. Not sure which direction your house faces. You might want to see where the tree shadows' path.

  3. @Holyoke - Thanks for the feedback!
    1. We have a compost pile now. I have it designated for the lower left corner next to the yard waste.
    2. The wisteria is already here and already crazy! I agree about it not being worth it, but it is already very established, so we are just going to take down our existing sagging support lines for it, and put it on the new fence.
    3. i hear yeah. Our yard is really huge. That new tree is going to take years to come in. We are thinking when it does, the garden will expand into the yard. Plus, we have the whole "vine plants" area that will have grapes, tomatoes, watermelon, etc.
