For some crotchety reason, I cringe every time I see the term "mood board" being used. So this is decidedly NOT a mood board:
The color is Ben Moore's Dark Pewter. Its gray-green-blue. Not exactly pulled from the canvas, but complimenting it AND the furniture.
I tried to do a google search of this color, but the only photo of it in a room I could find was MY mockup! HA! Here are some other photos of similar color pulled off the interwebs:
Because this was NOT a mood board, I've labeled it an "Input Mock-up". As in, I've mocked up my color idea to get your input. I would do a poll, but I forgot how, so please:
- Tell me I'm nuts.
- Suggest something radically different.
- Tell me you love it.
- Suggest something a tiny bit different.
Comment away!

Um... so it's dark but we agree we like it but you'd have to had accent color the heck out of that room. You could pull it off!
ReplyDeleteI really like dark rooms for babies. That room is on the southwest corner of the house, so it gets SO MUCH LIGHT. I think it can handle a dark color. I'm actually thinking of going very sparse with the accents. A mistake...?
DeleteI was thinking something more in the color around the top of the building and not so green? At least it's reading that way on my monitor. It looks super masculine to me which is fine because I think it's a boy, but it doesn't feel gender neutral.
ReplyDeleteWe tried those. Maybe I'll mock one up. The issue is that when you do that but not so green it turns into a sort of hospital color. Or like what I imagine old fashioned toothpaste to look like.
DeleteI'll try a mock up though.
And it is totally a mood board.
ReplyDeleteYou are a mean, mean person.
DeleteWhat a bold color. Good for you! It's just paint--if you change your mind later--you can repaint.
ReplyDeleteGo with it. The color is gorgeous.
ReplyDeletelove love love the color
ReplyDeleteI'm in love with the color as well. And completely agree with Michelle: it's totally a mood board :)
ReplyDeleteChezerby blog just did this. http://www.google.com/reader/view/?hl=en&tab=my&at=16ONJnkVBpJfcFrNUbRrbg#stream/feed%2Fhttp%3A%2F%2Fchezerbey.com%2Ffeed%2F
ReplyDeleteAt first I was cringing over so much dark grey, but since it's on the sunny side of the house, it's not an issue. But DEFINITELY get some accent color(and maybe find a pattern/print that would work well too) Otherwise, it's no different than leaving everything white, KWIM? So, sticking with Ben Moore colors, I would go with one of these three for an accent color: Saratoga Springs, Peppermint Leaf, or Utah Sky. And for a fabric/pattern, how about something like this? http://www.kerryadamsdesign.com/LagoonFQs1wtmk.jpg
ReplyDeleteIt's really dark. Love the color but I would definitely pick a bright, funky color to accent and keep it "Fun" and not dungeon. I'd do an acid green and just do a few small hits of it in the room.
ReplyDeleteGray seems to be a favorite for nurseries lately!
ReplyDeleteDana at House*Tweaking just today posted that she painted her daughter's nursery that color. Her floors are dark wood and it looks like she's using a lot of white (crib & chair) and a light color area rug.
Sara at Russet Street Reno used gray for her son's nursery also - but I think it is a lighter gray.
Now that I see more of what is in your room I can see that the purple-pinky shade (around the blue spire) would not look as good with the wood tones of the furniture & floor. You might want to wait until you paint to decide on curtain color - might be too much gray or might be hard to find a gray fabric that coordinates well.
That is insane she used the same color. I just got turned on to that blog last month or so.
DeleteI could not for the life of me find the color mentioned anywhere else! HA! Great minds think alike I guess?
I was sort of hoping we could work some purple-mauve-gray from the spire, but with the flooring and furniture it just doesn't work. ;(
I'm just going to say, whoa another nursery?! I've been MIA from TN and the GBCN world (as well as checking your blog) lately and I might have missed something! :-D
ReplyDeleteYep. #2!
DeleteAnd guess who is having to do the sleep lady shuffle again on #1? I was so sick up until week 17 I got lax on her and she's become a little nap/bedtime hellion!
We did it the first time around when I didn't even know i was pg. I was like oh man this is making me really tired! I'm about to start it with the second one! Congrats!!! (on the baby not the sleepless toddler lol)
